With the help of a MIT spinoff company that discover how to double the iPhone battery life and not making any changes to the phone’s thickness.  And, get this, it’s actually on it’s way to mass production.

SolidEngergy Systems is the startup that developed and “anode-free” lithium metal battery.  It has twice the density of lithium-ion batteries.  It’s also just as safe and long lasting.

“With two-times the energy density, we can make a battery half the size, but that still lasts the same amount of time, as a lithium-ion battery,” discussed  CEO of SolidEnergy and inventor Qichao Hu. “Or we can make a battery the same size as a lithium-ion battery, but now it will last twice as long.”

The first working prototype started in Oct. 2015.  The first batteries will start in drones this November, to iPhone 7’s next year.

The new battery technology has ultrathin lithium metal foil for the anode, “several times thinner and lighter than traditional graphite, carbon, or silicon anodes.”
