In the meantime, I had bought a possible replacement on eBay. I took it along. The service person took a look and listened to my tale of woes. He suggested swapping over the data to the eBay phone. (That’s the short of it.) He quoted a cost which was less than putting in a replacement power jack. Then he asked if I wanted to wait! It would take somewhat over half an hour. I said sure but used part of the time to run other errands. It was fixed in the allotted time. When I picked it up, he said that various parts of the “donor” phone were still fine (specifically the flashlight and the fingerprint sensor) and I might find it handy to keep it around just in case.
