I wanted to try to save the photos on the phone before having to restore it, so took it to a couple repair shops. They, without really looking at it, basically told me it was either a software or motherboard issue, both of which meant the data was toast. Then gave me a brochure for a mail-in data recovery service that would end up costing $900-$3500. I tried CPR based on a rec from a Verizon store employee, and right off the bat Ricardo said it was probably the screen or Face ID causing the issue. He replaced the screen and that did the trick. I’m so grateful that (for only ~$100) I was able to get the photos I had on my phone of my dad, who passed away last year.
